Troubleshooting
What to check when Vantage will not load, a feature stays silent, a setting resets, or a service says it is waiting, and how to send a bug report that gets it fixed.
On this page
This page is for the moment Vantage does not do what you expected. It starts with the checks that answer most questions in under a minute, then goes problem by problem: the game will not start, a feature or a HUD element stays silent, an alert never comes, prices look wrong, a setting changed by itself, the profile viewer or Vantage Stats says it is waiting. It ends with how to report a bug, and exactly what a report carries. It describes the mod as of 2.0.1.
First checks
Five commands answer most questions. Type them in chat. Each one answers in chat and changes nothing.
| Command | What it tells you |
|---|---|
/vt version | the Vantage version you run, and the Minecraft version it is running on |
/vt debug | the server, whether Vantage thinks you are in SkyBlock, the island and area it detected, your SkyBlock profile, how many features are registered, switched on and active, the active config profile, memory and FPS |
/vt features | every feature with its state: [off], [on] or [active] |
/vt status | whether item data and prices have loaded ("data ready" or "data loading"), and how Hypixel's public data is doing |
/vt debug data | each downloaded dataset, such as the dungeon room data, and how long ago it was fetched |
Most problems show up in the first two: a version you did not expect, or SkyBlock: false while you are
standing on your island.
The game's log
Vantage writes to the game's log, latest.log, in the logs folder of your Minecraft folder. Its lines are
marked Vantage, and a healthy start has these two among them:
Vantage <version> booting
Vantage ready in <n> msA feature that fails says so by its id, in lines such as Feature <id> failed to enable. An error Vantage also
showed you on screen is logged with [error] in front of it, and every title and toast it raises is logged with
[title] or [toast]. If you find no lines from Vantage at all, check /vt version: an older release kept
Vantage's own lines out of latest.log, the changelog says which, and updating fixes it.
Vantage does not load
The game stops before the title screen
Fabric Loader checks every mod's requirements before the game starts. When one is not met, it stops and names the mod and what it needs, instead of letting the game crash later. Vantage's requirements:
| Requirement | Vantage needs | If it is not met |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | the versions its jar was built for | take the other jar (below) |
| Java | 25 or newer | start the game on Java 25 or newer; how depends on your launcher, which this page does not cover |
| Fabric Loader | 0.19.3 or newer | update Fabric Loader |
| Fabric API | any version for your Minecraft | put Fabric API's jar in the same mods folder |
The wrong jar
Vantage supports Minecraft 26.1.2 and 26.2, with one jar for each. A jar's name ends in the Minecraft version it was built for, and it loads from that version up to, but not including, the next minor version. Outside that range Fabric Loader refuses it at start. Install has the table of jars and ranges.
The range is narrow on purpose. A jar is only known to work on the version it was compiled and tested against, and claiming more would turn a clear refusal at start into a crash on somebody's machine later.
Things that should not be in the folder
- A second Vantage jar. Keep one. When you update, replace the old jar rather than adding the new one beside it.
- The Hypixel Mod API on its own. Vantage carries its own copy inside its jar. Remove a separate one.
- Vantage on a server. It is client-side only. It does nothing on a server and does not belong in a server's
modsfolder.
It loads, but the menu does not open
Type /vt or /vantage in chat: that opens the menu whatever your keys are. If Right Shift does nothing, another
mod or a vanilla control may be using it; rebind Open Vantage menu, in Minecraft's Controls under the Vantage
category, as Keybinds describes. With ModMenu installed, Vantage's config button in the
mod list opens the menu too.
If /vt is an unknown command, Vantage did not load. Look in latest.log for the booting line above, and for
Fabric Loader's own message about why.
A feature does nothing
Switched on is not the same as active
A feature you switch on is enabled. It is active only when it is enabled and you are somewhere it works.
/vt features shows the difference, and /vt features <category> (for example /vt features dungeons) shows one
area:
| State | Means |
|---|---|
[off] | switched off |
[on] | switched on, but not running where you are |
[active] | switched on and running |
/vt toggle <feature> switches a feature on or off by its id (the command completes the ids as you type). When it
switches one on somewhere it cannot run, it says so: "enabled (inactive here)".
A feature is on but not active when:
- it needs SkyBlock and you are not in SkyBlock, which is true of most features;
- it works only on certain islands and you are on another; its reference page lists them;
- it has a condition of its own, such as being in a dungeon or in a boss fight;
- it failed to start, which leaves a line in the log (below).
Vantage thinks you are not in SkyBlock
/vt debug shows SkyBlock: true or false, and the island it detected. Vantage learns where you are from
Hypixel itself, through the Hypixel Mod API inside its jar. If it says false while you are on your island, or
names the wrong island, every feature tied to SkyBlock or to that island stays inactive. That is a bug: report it
with /vt bug and say where you were.
Some features work outside SkyBlock on purpose, such as Appearance and Waypoints. Their reference pages say "Works outside SkyBlock".
After a Minecraft or Hypixel update
Vantage hooks into the game in places that can move between versions of Minecraft. Those hooks are optional by design: when one stops matching, the feature that needed it stops working, and the game does not crash. The price is that nothing on screen tells you. A change on Hypixel's side, such as a reworded chat message, can do the same.
The log sometimes does tell you. Feature <id> failed to subscribe its handlers; leaving it inactive means a
feature could not start, and Vantage left it off rather than risk the rest. Either way the fix is a new Vantage
release, so report it with /vt bug and name the feature.
A HUD element is missing
Vantage never lets an element drift off the edge of the screen: it keeps every element inside the window at any size, and one larger than the screen is held at the top-left corner. So an element you cannot see is almost always one of these:
| Cause | How to tell | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Its feature is off, or not active here | /vt features | switch it on, or go where it works |
| It is switched off in the HUD editor | the editor's Hidden scope lists it | the switch on its row in the editor |
| It has nothing to say right now | the editor draws it, filled with sample content | nothing: it appears when it has something to show |
| The Director is holding it back | the Director is on, and its row in the editor has an amber dot | set its Visibility to Never hide in the inspector, or switch the Director off |
F1 has hidden the HUD | every element is gone, not just one | press F1 again |
| Another element covers it | the editor's Issues scope | move one of them, or put both in a container |
To find one element among many, open the editor with /vt hud and type its name into the search field (Ctrl+F).
If it sits somewhere awkward or has grown too large, select it and press R, or use Reset in its inspector, to
put its place, size and style back to its own defaults. The HUD editor covers every control.
An alert never came
Every title and toast Vantage raises is written to the log as a [title] or [toast] line, whether or not it was
shown. That splits the question in two.
If the line is in the log, Vantage raised the alert and one of your settings held it back. Check, on the
Notifications page: Show toasts and Show titles; the severity switches; Do not
disturb, and Quiet in dungeons and Quiet in boss fights, which hold back titles, toasts and sounds while
they apply. F1 also hides toasts along with the rest of the HUD.
If the line is not there, the feature never raised it. Look at that feature's own page in the menu: many features have their own switches for which alerts they raise. Announcement cards have their own rules, on Announcements and updates.
Prices or item data look wrong
Prices come from public sources and refresh in the background: the Bazaar from Hypixel every two minutes by
default, and lowest and average BIN prices from a community price service at twice that interval. Item names,
recipes and constants come from the NotEnoughUpdates item repository, a download kept in config/vantage/repo.
When the network is not there, Vantage carries on with the copies it already has, so prices can be old rather than
missing.
The controls are on the API & Data Sources page:
| To | Do |
|---|---|
| see what has loaded, and how old it is | Data source status, then Show; or /vt status |
| fetch prices now | Refresh prices now, then Refresh |
| fetch the newest item data | Update repo now, then Update |
| start the item data again from nothing | Reinstall repo, then Reinstall. It deletes the local copy and downloads a fresh one; its own description says to use it when items look wrong. |
| check the other datasets, such as dungeon room data | /vt debug data; /vt debug data refresh fetches them all again in the background |
Each button says in chat what it loaded when it finishes, unless you switch off Report to chat on the same page. A failure always shows, as an error.
A setting or your HUD changed by itself
Three things can make a setting look as if it reset. Check them in this order.
You are on another config profile
/vt profile lists your config profiles with the active one marked. Each holds its own settings and its own HUD
layout, and a profile you create or duplicate starts with the default layout. /vt profile switch <name> brings
both back. Switching SkyBlock profile never switches config profile; Config profiles explains the
difference.
A file could not be read
If your config profile's file was damaged, Vantage does not stop. The log says
Config profile <file> is unreadable; keeping a copy and starting from defaults, the damaged file is kept in
config/vantage/backups/ with -corrupt- and the time in its name, and the profile starts from the defaults.
Vantage also keeps the newest ten ordinary backups of each profile there.
Putting one back is a file copy, done with the game closed.
If the HUD layout file could not be read, the log says Could not read <path>; keeping default HUD layout, and the
default layout is used.
You edited a file by hand
/vt reload, or Reload from disk under More actions in the menu, reads the active profile and the HUD
layout from disk again. Without it, Vantage writes over a hand edit the next time it saves.
Resetting
When you would rather start a thing again than find out what changed:
| To put back | Do |
|---|---|
| one option | hover it and click the reset arrow that appears once its value differs from the default; the arrow's tooltip names the default |
| one feature | Reset at the top of the feature's page, which asks first |
| a whole category | More actions, then Reset this category, which asks first |
| one HUD element | R in the HUD editor, or Reset in its inspector |
| the whole HUD | Ctrl+R in the HUD editor; Ctrl+Z takes it back while the editor is open |
| everything | close the game and move the config/vantage folder somewhere else |
Moving the folder aside makes the next start a first launch, setup wizard included, and keeps the old folder to go back to. On this computer it also puts Vantage Stats back to off and signed out, because its consent and its sign-in live in that folder; what the service holds for you is not touched.
The profile viewer cannot read Hypixel
The profile viewer, in game with /vt pv <name> and in a browser, does not ask Hypixel itself. A public mod may not
carry a Hypixel API key, so it asks Vantage's service, which holds one registered application key. Whether the
service can read Hypixel at a given moment is on the maintainer's side, and this page does not promise that it can
today. The message tells you which situation you are in:
| The viewer says | Means | You can |
|---|---|---|
| "Vantage's profile service is not reading Hypixel at the moment - it either has no application key yet, or it is at its request budget." | the service is up, but cannot ask Hypixel now | try later; nothing on your side changes it |
| "Too many profile lookups from this connection. Give it a few minutes." | many lookups in a short time | wait a few minutes |
| "Hypixel could not be reached." | the service could not reach Hypixel | try again later |
| "Could not reach the profile API. Check your connection and try again." | your game could not reach the service | check your connection |
| "Unknown player: name" | Mojang knows no player by that name | check the spelling |
| "name has no SkyBlock profiles." | the player has never played SkyBlock | check the name |
| "No section to show", with "switched off in their SkyBlock API settings" | that player has that API toggle off | nothing: only they can turn it on, in SkyBlock's Settings, then API Settings |
To ask the service directly, open API & Data Sources and press Check beside Where profiles come from. It answers in chat with one of three lines: "The service is configured and ready.", "The service is up but has no Hypixel key yet, so profile lookups will say so. That is the maintainer's to fix, not yours.", or "The service did not answer:" followed by the reason.
In a browser, the same state shows on a player's profile page as "That could not be loaded", with a note that the maintainer's production application has not been granted yet; Vantage Stats' own pages do not depend on it. No key of your own would help: Vantage has nowhere to put one. Profile viewer says how the viewer works.
Vantage Stats says it is waiting
When something stops a Vantage Stats upload, nothing recorded is lost. It waits on your computer, and the status
screen says why. Open it with /vt stats: its Last sync card says what was last accepted, what is still
waiting, and the reason. /vt stats sync sends what is waiting now, or answers with the reason it cannot.
| The status screen says | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Nothing is being held back; the next upload goes within five minutes." | nothing |
| "Nothing is recorded, so nothing is sent." | no category is switched on, or the feature is off; /vt stats consent opens the consent screen |
| "Not sent: this computer is not signed in. Prove the account from this screen; nothing recorded is lost." | prove the account from the status screen, or run /vt stats link while you are in a world on Hypixel |
| "Not sent: the service is not taking stats yet. Everything waits here and goes when it is." | nothing on your side; it uploads once the service is ready |
| "Not sent: uploading is paused. The reason is above; nothing recorded is lost." | read the line above it: a full account (free space from the status screen), a sign-in the service refused (/vt stats link), or a service that needs updating first |
| "Not sent yet: the service asked for a pause after a failure. It will try again by itself." | nothing |
| "Waiting for the service's pace: it asked for a gap between uploads, and the next one goes when it ends." | nothing |
| "Not sent: the server has not been told what you chose to share yet. It is tried before every upload." | nothing; it is retried before every upload |
| "Waiting for SkyBlock to say which profile this is; that happens on joining an island." | join an island: nothing is filed under a SkyBlock profile until Hypixel's own chat line names it |
| "Nothing else to send: what was waiting was held back by the privacy filter and kept for a bug report." | send a bug report, so the entry the filter refused can be fixed |
| "Waiting for you to leave a world: Sync while you play is off." | switch Sync while you play back on, or leave the world |
When the service has its Stats side switched off, the screen also says "Vantage Stats is not switched on for this service yet. Nothing is lost — your stats are recorded here and will upload when it is." That is not an error, and there is nothing to retry. Overview says what Stats is and how to turn it on.
"Not shared" on the checklist
The status screen's Checklist tab lists each part of your profile mirror with its state. Not yet means you
have not opened the menu that fills it; the line beside it names the menu. Not shared means the part is read
from one of Hypixel's tab-list widgets, and that widget is switched off in your /widget settings, so there is
nothing to read. The line says which to turn on, for example "Turn on /widget Bank." Until then the part stays off
your page rather than showing a zero.
A block for a bug report
/vt stats status prints everything a report about Stats needs: whether it is armed and recording, your
categories, the service's readiness, the sync state, what is waiting in the outbox, and the last answer.
Reporting a bug
From the game: /vt bug
Describe what went wrong after the command, on one line:
/vt bug the slayer timer stays on screen after the boss dies/vantage bug works the same. Typing the command sends nothing. It builds the report and opens a screen titled
"Send this bug report?", which shows all of it and says "This is everything that will be sent. Nothing else goes
with it." Read it, then press Send, or Cancel to drop it.
| A report carries | What it is |
|---|---|
| What you wrote | your description; its first line, up to 200 characters, becomes the report's title |
| Vantage | the version you run |
| Minecraft | the game's version |
| Loader | the Fabric Loader version |
| Mods | every mod you have loaded, by id and version, sorted, and nothing else about them |
| Vantage log | the last 40 lines Vantage itself logged this session, each cut at 400 characters |
The screen also shows the address the report goes to: Vantage's service, at stats.glass-vt.lol.
What a report never carries, as the screen itself says: chat, coordinates, your username, party or lobby players, your account, file paths, or the game log. Other players' names or stats are never in it either. The mod list is there because most problems with a client mod turn out to be two mods disagreeing, and it says nothing about you. The log lines come from Vantage's own logger only: never another mod's lines, never the game's, never chat.
After you press Send, chat answers with one of three lines:
| Chat says | Means |
|---|---|
| "Report filed. Thank you." | it arrived |
| "That is already known. This is report n of it. Thank you." | somebody reported the same thing; yours was counted |
| "The report could not be sent. Nothing was stored; try again later." | the service could not be reached; nothing was kept, so send it again later |
The privacy policy says what the service does with a report once it arrives.
Writing a useful report
- Say what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- Name the feature, the island, and whether it happens every time.
- If the problem is about where Vantage thinks you are, describe it in words: the output of
/vt debugis not attached.
On GitLab
Vantage's source and its issue tracker are on GitLab, at gitlab.com/Ekoss/vantage. With a GitLab account you can open an issue on the project's issue list. An issue is public, so:
- include what
/vt versionprints, and the other mods you run; - copy only the lines marked Vantage from
latest.log, never the whole file; - leave out your Vantage Stats page link, and anything from an exported config string you would not post in public.
Building from source: the expected skip
This one is for people who build Vantage themselves. The UI smoke test (./gradlew runUiSmokeTest) writes its
verdict to run/screenshots/smoke-report.txt, and on a healthy build that file reads FAILED - 1 failure(s), with
exactly this line:
selftest: ravengard stack adapter: SKIPPED (item components unbound - runs on your first world join)That line is expected. The check it names needs a loaded world, and the smoke test runs at the title screen, so it reports itself skipped rather than claim a pass it did not earn; Gradle still exits 0. It is not a fault in your build or in anybody's game. Testing covers the harness.
