Notifications

Toasts, titles, sounds and chat lines, the one page that controls all of them, and how to quiet Vantage for a while or for good.

Many features need your attention at some point: a boss phase, a rare drop, a timer running out, a new release. They all reach you through the same four channels, and one page in the menu decides how loudly every one of them speaks. This page is for anyone who finds Vantage too quiet or too loud. It covers the channels, every option on the Notifications page with its default and range, do not disturb, and how the toast stack behaves, as of 2.0.1.

Four ways Vantage gets your attention

ChannelWhat it isWhereCan be silenced by
Toasta small glass card with a title, an optional line of text and a coloured edgetop-right corner, stacked downwardsShow toasts, the severity switches, do not disturb
Titlebig centred text, sometimes with a smaller line under itthe middle of the screen, a third of the way downShow titles, do not disturb
Sounda short alert soundPlay sounds, Alert volume, do not disturb
Chat linea line in chat starting with [Vantage]chatnothing on this page: chat always comes through

Chat is the channel nothing here silences, because it scrolls away on its own and stays readable later. When you want a feature to say less in chat, look on that feature's own page.

The Notifications page

The options belong to the Notifications feature, in the menu under General, then Alerts. To go straight there:

/vt config notifications

Every feature's titles, toasts and sounds pass through one point in Vantage, and that is where these settings are applied, so they hold for every feature, including ones that do not mention them.

Toasts

OptionDefaultRangeWhat it does
Show toastsonthe corner cards used for most alerts. Off leaves titles, sounds and chat untouched.
Toast duration4 s1 to 20 s, steps of 0.5how long a toast stays before it slides away
Maximum toasts51 to 10how many can be stacked at once

Toast duration and Maximum toasts are greyed out while Show toasts is off.

The toast stack

Toasts slide in at the top-right corner and stack downwards, the oldest at the top. Each carries a thin line along its foot that shortens as its time runs out, so nothing disappears by surprise, and catches one sweep of light as it arrives (skipped under Reduce motion on the Appearance page).

When a new toast would make the stack longer than Maximum toasts, the oldest one leaves to make room. When the stack would run off the bottom of the screen, which can happen at a large GUI scale, the toasts that do not fit are not drawn; their time keeps running all the same, so they never pile up and arrive all at once later.

Toasts appear over open screens and on the title screen too, so feedback from a button in the Vantage menu is never lost. While you play, F1 hides them along with the rest of the HUD.

Titles

OptionDefaultRangeWhat it does
Show titlesonbig centred text for alerts that must not be missed, such as boss phases and rare drops
Title duration2 s0.5 to 10 s, steps of 0.5how long a Vantage title stays on screen

One title shows at a time. A new title replaces the one on screen rather than queueing behind it.

Sounds

OptionDefaultRangeWhat it does
Play soundsonalert sounds played by Vantage features. Separate from Minecraft's own sound sliders.
Alert volume100 %0 to 100 %, steps of 5a master volume applied to every Vantage alert sound

Alert volume scales every sound a feature plays, including the chime under an announcement card. At 0 % Vantage plays nothing.

Severity

Every toast has a severity, shown as the colour of its edge. Each severity has its own switch, all on by default.

SeverityColourUsed for
Infoyour accent colourtrackers, timers, informational updates
Successgreensomething completed, or a goal was reached
Warningambersomething needs attention soon
Errorreda feature could not do its job

Switching a severity off stops toasts of that kind. Titles and sounds have no severity, so these switches do not affect them. When a feature reports an error, Vantage puts the message in chat in red as well as in a toast, so you see it even with toasts off, unless you have switched Error off. Leave Error on unless you know what you are hiding.

Do not disturb

OptionDefaultWhat it does
Do not disturboffsilences every Vantage title, toast and alert sound until you turn it back off
Quiet in dungeonsoffthe same, for the whole of a dungeon run
Quiet in boss fightsoffthe same, from the moment a dungeon's boss fight starts, so nothing covers the screen at the worst moment

Chat still comes through in all three. What do not disturb holds back is not lost entirely: every title and toast is still written to the game's log, so you can find out afterwards what was said.

The loudness you chose in setup

The setup wizard's How loud? step writes three of these switches for you:

ChoiceThe wizard saysShow toastsShow titlesPlay sounds
Quiet"Chat only. Nothing covers the screen, nothing makes a sound."offoffoff
Standard"Toasts in the corner for anything worth knowing."onoffoff
Loud"Toasts, big centred text and a sound for anything urgent."ononon

Before you choose, Vantage behaves like Loud. You can come back to the wizard with /vt setup, or change the three switches here at any time; First launch has the rest of the wizard.

A feature's own alerts

The Notifications page decides how an alert reaches you. Whether a feature raises one at all is up to that feature, and many have their own switches for it. A few examples:

  • Mining notifications raises titles for mineshaft portals, Suspicious Scrap and goblin spawns.
  • Profile switch notice tells you which SkyBlock profile you are on, with its own Style choice.
  • Chat Rules lets you turn any chat message into a sound, a title or a toast.
  • Announcements arrive as a card of their own, or as an ordinary toast if you prefer.

When a feature is too chatty, its own page is the place to start; when everything is, this one is.

Trying it out

The Preview option at the foot of the Notifications page has a Send test button. It sends one toast of every severity, a title and a sound, all through your current settings, so you can see and hear exactly what you will get. The setup wizard's How loud? step has a Test it button that does the same with whichever choice you just picked.
