Config profiles
Keeping separate sets of Vantage settings, moving them between computers, and getting back a setting you lost.
On this page
A config profile is a named, complete set of Vantage settings. This page is for anyone with more than one way of playing, more than one computer, or a setting they wish they had not changed. It covers making and switching profiles from the menu and from chat, moving settings through the clipboard, the backups Vantage takes for you, and where every file lives, as of 2.0.1.
Config profiles, not SkyBlock profiles
Two different things are called a profile, and this page keeps them apart.
| Config profile | SkyBlock profile | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | a named set of Vantage settings | Hypixel's save: your island, items and skills, the one with a fruit name |
| Who makes it | you, in Vantage | Hypixel, in SkyBlock |
| How you switch | the menu's Profiles button, or /vt profile switch | SkyBlock's own profile menu |
| What follows it | every Vantage option, and its own HUD layout | Vantage's per-profile trackers and records |
Vantage does not tie the two together. Switching SkyBlock profile does not switch config profile, and switching config profile does not touch your SkyBlock data.
Trackers that count things per SkyBlock profile (slayers, fishing, Kuudra and combat among them) file their records under your account and the SkyBlock profile you are on, so they follow the SkyBlock profile on their own, whichever config profile is active. The Profile switch notice feature tells you which SkyBlock profile you are on whenever it changes.
What a config profile holds
| Holds | Does not hold |
|---|---|
| every option of every feature, including each feature's on and off switch | Vantage Stats' consent, sign-in and page settings |
its own HUD layout, kept beside it in hud.json | files features keep for themselves, such as your chat rules, waypoints, the grind ledger and the trackers above |
| the item repository, the price cache and the other downloaded data |
Vantage Stats keeps its account state out of config profiles on purpose. A profile can be exported to a string people paste to each other, and backups are copied around, so a consent record or a sign-in token in there would travel to another computer. Sharing your settings never shares your Stats. What is recorded says what Stats keeps instead, and where.
The default profile
The first time Vantage starts it creates a profile called default, and that is the one you use until you make
another. The active profile saves itself automatically, half a second after each change and again when the game
closes; there is no save button.
Making and switching
In the menu
Open the menu and click Profiles at the foot of the sidebar. The list shows every profile with the active one marked. From there:
| Action | How | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Switch | click a profile | its settings and its HUD layout load at once |
| New | the New button | asks for a name; the new profile starts from the defaults |
| Duplicate | the copy icon on a row | a copy of that profile's settings under a new name |
| Rename | the pencil icon on a row | renames the profile's file; the HUD layout stays under the old name (see below) |
| Delete | the bin icon on a row | asks first; cannot be undone |
| Export, Import | the buttons under the list | see Moving settings |
| Open config folder | the button at the foot | opens config/vantage in your file manager |
Names made in the menu may contain spaces. Characters a file name cannot hold (\ / : * ? " < > |) become
underscores.
From chat
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
/vt profile or /vt profile list | lists your profiles, the active one marked |
/vt profile switch <name> | switches, settings and HUD layout together |
/vt profile create <name> | makes a new profile as a copy of the active one |
/vt profile delete <name> | deletes a profile |
/vt profile create takes letters, digits, - and _, up to 32 characters. switch and delete accept any
name, but one with a space has to be in quotes:
/vt profile switch "default copy"Deleting
Deleting a profile you are not using removes its file. Deleting the active profile switches you back to
default first. Deleting default while it is active resets every setting in it to the defaults instead, since
there is nowhere else to go. The menu asks before it deletes anything; /vt profile delete does not.
Moving settings between computers
Settings travel as a string on the clipboard. You copy it on one computer, paste it into a message or a file, copy it again on the other, and import it there.
| To copy | Use | Carries |
|---|---|---|
| the whole active profile | /vt export, Export in Profiles, or More actions, then Export to clipboard in the menu | settings |
| one feature | /vt export <feature>, or Export to clipboard while that feature's page is open | that feature's settings |
| settings and the HUD | More actions, then Presets, then Copy mine | settings and the HUD layout, with its containers, pins and layer order |
| To apply | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| a settings string | /vt import, Import in Profiles (asks first), or Import from clipboard in the menu | merges into the active profile; any HUD layout in the string is ignored |
| settings and the HUD | Presets, then Paste (asks first) | applies the settings and, if the string carries one, the HUD layout; Undo takes it back until you close the game |
An import merges. The settings in the string overwrite yours; everything the string does not mention stays as it was, so importing one feature's export changes only that feature.
The string
A Vantage string starts with VANTAGE1: and is the profile's settings, compressed and encoded so it survives
being pasted anywhere. It also names the Vantage version that made it. Import accepts plain JSON in the same
shape too.
Strings travel between versions. Settings an older Vantage does not know, from a newer version or a feature that has since been removed, are kept in the profile untouched rather than dropped, and settings that were renamed between versions are carried to their new names when the string is imported.
Backups
Every time Vantage loads an existing profile, it first copies the file into backups/. That happens when the
game starts, when you switch to the profile, and when you reload from disk with /vt reload or the menu's
Reload from disk. The very first launch has nothing to back up.
The newest ten backups of each profile are kept, named after the profile and the moment they were taken:
config/vantage/backups/default-20260930-184512.jsonPutting one back
There is no button for it; it is a file copy, and it is best done with the game closed, because Vantage saves the active profile when the game exits and would write over a file you replaced while it ran.
- Close the game.
- Open
config/vantage/backups/and find the copy you want, by its date and time. - Copy it into
config/vantage/profiles/and rename it to the profile's name, for exampledefault.json, replacing the file there. - Start the game.
Your HUD layout is not part of these backups; it lives in hud.json.
When a file is damaged
If a profile's file cannot be read, Vantage does not stop. It keeps a copy of the damaged file in backups/,
named with -corrupt- and the time, starts that profile from the defaults, and writes a line to the game's log.
To get your settings back, restore the newest regular backup as described above, or send the damaged copy with a
bug report.
Resetting
You do not need a new profile to undo a few changes:
| To reset | Do |
|---|---|
| one option | hover it and click the reset arrow that appears once it differs from its default |
| one feature | the Reset button at the top of the feature's page (asks first) |
| a whole category | More actions, then Reset this category (asks first) |
| everything | delete default while it is the active profile, which resets it |
| the HUD layout | the HUD editor's Ctrl+R, or its Reset button |
Where the files live
Everything Vantage keeps is under your Minecraft folder's config/vantage/. The files this page talks about:
config/vantage/
vantage.json which profile is active
profiles/
default.json one file per config profile
backups/ the newest ten copies of each profile, and any damaged file
hud.json the HUD layout of every profile, by nameData and privacy lists the rest of the folder.
